Challenge

CHALLENGE Aalborg municipality wanted to inform cyclists about their new measures, where on certain stretches it is now possible to cycle in the same direction.

SOLUTION Aalborg Municipality chose citrus media to be responsible for the creative presentation and carry out the campaign. The solution consisted of direct communication to the cyclists, where road signs were set up that were equipped with lights, as well as foil on the asphalt.

PRESS RELEASE

One-way cycling is introduced in selected streets

Aalborg Municipality now makes it legal to cycle in one direction in 10 streets in Aalborg. The intention is to save cyclists a detour and make it easier to get around by bike. The project must be seen as another initiative that will bring Aalborg forward among the country's leading cycling cities for the benefit of the environment, health and the urban environment.

It may seem surprising to the other traffic at first. In order to alert motorists that they can meet oncoming traffic, new signage has been established, which in several places is supplemented by markings on the carriageway, a solution that already has good experience in e.g. Copenhagen.

Councilor Hans Henrik Henriksen states:

"The city council has an ambition to develop Aalborg into an even more attractive city, and here the bicycle plays an important role. The bicycle counteracts congestion and is good for both the environment and health, and by getting more people to cycle, space is also freed up for more city life. Here and now, we welcome spring by making it possible to cycle in one direction in 10 streets in Aalborg. With the project, for example, it will be possible to cycle directly from Jyllandsgade to Mølleplads via Rantzausgade, which can thereby become an obvious route for many cyclists who have a destination in the central city”.

The 10 sections are i.a. selected as it does not require major changes to allow cycling against one direction. These are the following streets: Rantzausgade, Christiansgade, Louisegade, Skipper Clements Gade, Peder Barkes Gade, Pederstræde, Klokkestøbergadens Vandgyde, Søndergade, Knudsgade, Østre Kanalgade. Aalborg Municipality expects to continuously evaluate the measure.

In the first weeks, the sections will be marked with temporary signage to clarify the new options.

Aalborg Cykelby will mark the opening on April 4 with a small event. At selected locations, there will be an opportunity to have a chat with employees from Aalborg Cykelby, who will be ready to hand out bells and other goodies.
